Faith Team Involvement

GET INVOLVED WITH OUR FAITH TEAMS

As a part of a Christian community we believe that we are the "body of Christ."  What we mean is that we all have gifts, talents, abilities and that it takes all of us working together to realize God's vision for our Church.

Our vision is "we are a Faith community passionately seeking to follow Jesus in our time." In order to fulfill our vision we need, people to come together (community) to bring their God given gifts/ talents/abilities to serve, help and lead in the various ministries and programs and "other focused" initiatives.

COFFEE HOUR HOSTS

Every week after our service, we have a fellowship time in Dickenson Hall.  A chance to have a cup of coffee or tea and a cookie or three and catch up with friends.  There is a sign-up book for volunteers to host this weekly activity.  All you need to do is sign up, show up and pour!  It’s another great way to meet and greet!  All the set-up is handled and there are always volunteers to help with cleanup!

USHERING/COUNTERS

Each week, we have volunteers who meet and greet at the entrances to the church to ensure that newcomers and visitors don’t get lost!  We also have a group that count the offering collection every week following the service.  This dedicated group rotates on a monthly basis and if you are interested in becoming an Usher or Counter, please contact the church office.

PRAYER SHAWL GROUP

This group is currently not meeting. The prayer shawl group meets the third Monday of the month, except the summer. This dedicated group of knitters and crocheters get together each month to make beautiful prayer shawls. These lovely creations are blessed by the congregation several times a year and are distributed by members of Outreach to those in need of a warm, prayerful hug.

SUNDAY SCRIPTURE READERS

Every Sunday, volunteers read the scripture readings and announcements. If you are interested in participating as a reader or announcer, contact the church office to be included in the rotation.

TECHNOLOGY TEAM

We are pleased that our tech team is growing!  If you have a passion for technology and would like to assist with the growth of our team, contact the church office to find out more on how you can be involved.

KID'S CORNER

Faith's Kid's Corner is now in the Narthex of the church. It is always set up for Sunday service, so please come and look! We are looking for volunteers to help with watching the kids on Sundays. Contact the office!

CHANCEL CHOIR

Our Church has a long history of wonderful music. We've been blessed over the years to have had wonderful organists to play our 100-year old 3-manual Cassavant Organ, our eight foot Yamaha grand piano, alongside directing our choir, carrying on the tradition. We have a wide repertoire from traditional to gospel to African American, as well as global music. As well, our Contemporary Group, "On The Side" adds a wonderful variety to the music we are able to present in worship. Contact our organist if you’d like to swell our ranks honouring God as revealed in Jesus Christ in our worship.

HAND BELL CHOIR

Continuing in our long history of fantastic music, we have a 3-octave English Handbell set played by a dedicated group. Our hand bell choir meets Thursday evenings at 6:30 p.m. and plays regularly throughout the church year, not just for special occasions! There will be no practice for the Hand Bells during the summer months. If you are interested in playing and taking part in this wonderful choir, please contact our organist! You can also contact the church office for further information on how to partake, or for the contact information of our Music Director, Gordon.

SOCIAL JUSTICE TEAM

Interested in Social Justice Issues? Our Social Justice and Right Relations Team is the newest, and very important addition to our teams here at Faith United! If you want to learn more or join the team as we explore Social Justice and Right Relations Issues speak with Colleen Cavanaugh at coffee hour or send an email to the church office to express your interest. This group meets the second Monday of each month and will meet during the day. There will be no meetings during the summer months.

OUTREACH TEAM

Our Outreach team is responsible for the oversight of all Outreach activities of the Congregation as they exist at the local, national and international level. We ascertain the charitable needs of the local community in the context of the congregation, its resources, its purpose and the Christian response to those needs. All are welcome to join our Outreach team! We are always looking for new faces to help us in the practice of looking beyond our congregation to those around us and sharing the love of Christ as we serve and connect with our community.

UNITED CHURCH WOMEN

United Church of Women was established to provide opportunities for women of the Church to develop Christian understanding, faith and experience through involvement and activities. To cultivate friendships, and unite the women of the Church. All women in the congregation are welcome to join one of our two units. We meet monthly, with July and August as exceptions. Unit 3 meets on the first Monday of each month at 1:30 p.m. Unit 6 meets the first Tuesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. Find out more info on our 'UCW' page.

MEN OF FAITH

The Men of Faith exist to provide an opportunity for the men of the congregation to express their loyalty and devotion to Jesus Christ; allowing them to pursue the total mission of the church and to reach out to men of all ages in the community through Christian Witness, Fellowship, Study, and Service. All men in the congregation are welcome to join. The MOF have breakfast gatherings the third Saturday of each month, with the exception of July and August.

For more information on these wonderful Ministries please contact our Church office.

1 Corinthians 12:12-13 (The Message)

You can easily enough  see how this kind of thing works by looking no further than your own body. Your body has many parts—limbs, organs, cells—but no matter how many parts you can name, you're still one body. It's exactly the same with Christ. By means of his one Spirit, we all said good-bye to our partial and piecemeal lives.

We each used to independently call our own shots, but then we entered into a large and integrated life in which he has the final say in everything. (This is what we proclaimed in word and action when we were baptized.) Each of us is now a part of his resurrection body, refreshed and sustained at one fountain—his Spirit—where we all come to drink. The old labels we once used to identify ourselves—labels like Jew or Greek, slave or free—are no longer useful. We need something larger, more comprehensive.
